Help save a life- Join our blood drive!
*UPDATE* - You're all amazing - we filled the drive in record time, and because there's still a month to go, the Red Cross has recruited more staff for the drive day so that we can add 25 more appointments. More blood = more lives saved! Let's fill these too!
You might remember this time last year we spent 5 days in the hospital following Koen's birth, an emergency c-section that ended with cervical hemorrhage and hysterectomy. I lost all of my blood in the operating room and survived because of the availability of 11+ units that people had selflessly donated in order to “save a life”, which they did.
Before I went under general anesthesia and they were hooking up the 3rd or 4th bag, I remember thinking about the last time I had donated blood, frequently in high school, less in college, and regretfully none that I could remember in the last 10 years. When I was in recovery, I told the doctor it was probably time I get back to donating, and they said “go ahead… after 1 year.”
So, here we are 1 year later, and happy to be partnering with the Red Cross to sponsor a blood drive in St Johnsbury, VT. I’ll be donating in honor of Koen’s birth, and I’m calling on all of you to consider donating, if you are able.
Blood donation is quick, easy, and truly the simplest way to actually play a part in saving a life. There’s no substitute. You might not know exactly where your blood goes after donation, but you can be sure a person or family is eternally grateful to have it. We were.

The basics are:
- There are some questions and qualifications that need to be met to be sure you are able to donate. These can be answered online or at check in on the day of the drive.
- The actual donation takes 8-10 minutes seated in a comfy chair. Set aside 1 hour for check in, prep, donation and post-donation complimentary snacks
